We all know they’re instinctive connoisseurs of comfort, but this particular specimen is also the most skilful hotstepper in the kingdoms of stamina, intelligence, safety, innovation and style. Among a voluptuous list of other advanced technological breakthroughs, Jaguar’s new E-PACE has a function that’s able to detect if you’re beginning to feel tired or drowsy thanks to inputs from thousands of data points (steering and other general driving behaviours such as pedal pressure); and it will alert you to take a break. If that doesn’t whet your appetite enough for more feline fascination then we trust that you, like the rest of us, will find promises are kept – from exterior developments with the kind of dynamic emphasis and appeal that really separates the sheep from the goats, to the hypnotic new interior details that sway us into the marque’s crafted, ultra-luxurious world of the finest materials that integrate the latest connected technologies.

The E-PACE’s chiselled plan-shape and sculpted bonnet highlight its performance credentials and the precision of its overall design. The dramatic roofline and side window graphic accentuates the sense of dynamism, a design cue inspired by the Jaguar F-TYPE Coupé.

The head-on view features a revised front lower aperture with a blade element running through it to create a more assertive presence. The grille is finished in a new mesh design with diamond detailing – influenced by the Jaguar heritage logo, its Noble Chrome nod signals to the maximised sense of luxury.

New all-LED headlights give E-PACE an even bolder appearance, day or night. The front lighting design features the ‘Double J’ Daytime Running Light (DRL) signature graphic and the latest technologies, including a Pixel LED option. Front and rear animated directional indicators are standard on SE and HSE specification packs, while S spec pack models use rear animated directional indicators as standard.

At the rear, the lower bumper accents a new mesh insert, which sits between integrated tail pipes (standard on the four-cylinder petrol engine models); other engines receive the new slim horizontal blade finishers. The all-LED rear lights are inspired by the all-electric I-PACE and feature Jaguar’s chicane graphic. Attention to detail is also evident on the side vents, which now feature the iconic Jaguar Leaper for instant recognition.

In purposeful R-Dynamic spec, the new E-PACE’s blade element of the lower apertures is removed and finished with a Noble Chrome surround, while the front grille tips prefer Shadow Atlas rather than Noble Chrome, and the lower front bumper is finished in body colour.

All models are available with the additional Black Exterior Pack, which shares an even more dynamic appearance with bespoke elements finished in Narvik Black. These include the grille surround and tips, lower bumper mesh inserts, side vents, window surrounds and rear badging.

A choice of 12 wheel options includes four new diamond-turned designs: a new 18-inch five-spoke wheel with Satin Black inserts, 19-inch five-spoke design with Satin Dark Grey inserts, 20-inch five-spoke version with Satin Dark Grey insert and 21-inch 10-spoke design featuring Gloss Black inserts.

Inside Story

The interior’s focal point is the new curved 11.4-inch HD touchscreen integrated into the central instrument panel. Chemically strengthened, the glass screen is coated twice; one coating is anti-glare and a second makes removing fingerprints easier.

This large touchscreen operates the new Pivi Pro infotainment system, which provides great clarity. The intuitive set-up allows the driver to carry out 90% of common tasks within two taps from the home screen thanks to its simplified menu structure. This seamless integration of new technology is integral to Jaguar’s new design DNA.

The latest cabin air ionisation technology removes allergens and now also features a filtration system capable of capturing ultra-fine particles for improved health and well-being for all, well, inside-Jag beings.

The driver focussed interior also provides easier access to the stowage area behind the new Drive Selector that houses the 15W wireless device charger. Driver touchpoints around the cluster are wrapped in soft-touch materials. The knee side contact area has been carefully sculpted to invite you and your knee to indulge in this exceptional detail of luxury and spotlights yet another of Jaguar’s considerate and attentive foresights in its all-embracing anticipation of your comfort.

The new Drive Selector epitomises Jaguar’s approach to contemporary controls. The soft upper trim wraps round the palm grip and features a cricket-ball stitch. Below, the precision-engineered metal cradle is sculpted for added tactility.

This total – let’s face it – ‘nobility fest’ of attention to detail extends to the metallic rotary dials and the new steering wheel. Influenced by the design in the all-electric I-PACE performance SUV, hidden-until-lit switches and metal gearshift paddles polish the user experience to superior levels (R-Dynamic specification models have an Ebony steering wheel with a perforated leather inner and ‘R’ badging).

An embossed Jaguar Leaper on the headrests and ‘Est.1935 Jaguar Coventry’ upholstery tags form a part of Jaguar’s rich heritage brought to life in a contemporary way. Interior colourways include Ebony, Light Oyster, Deep Garnet, Caraway and Cloud while E-PACE R-Dynamic is available with a choice of Ebony, Deep Garnet and Cloud options.

R-Dynamic specification provides a sportier appearance across the cabin as well as externally. Additions include the R-Dynamic sports seats, Ebony Suedecloth headlining, contrast stich detailing and an Ebony steering wheel with ‘R’ badging. Rich accent colours twin with the sporty Ebony Black environment and authentic aluminium finishes.

On the outside, the front-end graphic of the car is more imposing, with Noble Chrome surrounds for the lower apertures and a darker finish to the lower bumper area. Available in all exterior colours, the 300 SPORT has 20-inch five-spoke Diamond-turned with Black accent wheels, Black Exterior Pack and powered tailgate. On the inside are illuminated Jaguar treadplates, Meridian Audio, Ebony Suedecloth headlining and R-Dynamic Taurus Sport seats available in Ebony, Cloud and Deep Garnet.

Power Options

An advanced 1.5-litre turbo-charged three-cylinder petrol engine is the latest member of the modular, flexible Ingenium engine family, and is available in the E-PACE with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) technology. With a significant 33kg weight saving over the four-cylinder option, this lightweight new aluminium unit delivers strong performance and refinement with low levels of friction, which contribute to excellent efficiency and fuel consumption.

The P300e PHEV powertrain combines the 147kW 1.5-litre three-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine and an 80kW Electric Rear Axle Drive (ERAD) motor to deliver a combined 227kW/540Nm and a 0-100km/h in 6.5 seconds sprint. CO2 emissions measure from 44g/km and fuel economy is as low as 2.0l/100km (WLTP TEH combined). The compact ERAD motor is powered by a 15kWh lithium-ion battery located under the boot floor, which when fully charged provides up to 55km of all-electric range, enabling the new all-wheel drive P300e to complete the average daily commute of 30.2km in EV mode without requiring a recharge.

Next up are a 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium diesel and the latest 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engines, all paired with AWD and nine-speed A/T.

The 147kW D200 2.0-litre four-cylinder diesel produces 430Nm, and features a selection of advanced efficient engine technologies. Included are friction-reducing steel pistons, while a variable vane turbocharger and the new 2 500 bar piezo common rail injection system deliver even finer fuel control to optimise efficiency.

The 2.0-litre four-cylinder Ingenium petrol engine is available in two power outputs, starting with a 184kW/365Nm P250 version that sprints from 0-100km/h in 7.5 seconds. Top of the petrol engine range is the 221kW/400Nm P300 variant, available exclusively in the E-PACE 300 SPORT, which offers 0-100km/h in 6.9 seconds and a maximum speed of 241km/h.

All E-PACE models have Jaguar Drive Control featuring Comfort, Eco and Dynamic modes. The settings, selected through a toggle switch next to the new Drive Selector, adapt the E-PACE’s steering, transmission, throttle and (when specified) Adaptive Damping calibrations. A new Adaptive Surface Response, which replaces Rain-Ice-Snow mode, automatically determines the most appropriate of three separate settings by monitoring the surface conditions every tenth-of-a-second and reacting within half a second.

Cutting-Edge Hi-Tech

The latest Pivi Pro infotainment technology is accessed through a new curved glass 11.4-inch HD touchscreen which is three times brighter and 48% larger than the previous screen. To enable almost instantaneous start-up, Pivi Pro has its own dedicated power source, so navigation is ready as soon as the driver is behind the wheel, while the embedded apps available provide full functionality even without a smartphone. Other connected features include Google and Microsoft Outlook calendar integration that enables the driver to view work diaries and join calls through the hands-free system. Updates are downloaded in the background, with customers notified by an alert detailing the key changes.

The central 11.4-inch touchscreen is complemented by a new 12.3-inch HD Interactive Driver Display with improved graphics and a configurable layout, which can show full screen navigation mapping with turn-by-turn instructions, digital dials, media, contact list or infotainment details. The interactive driver display works in conjunction with the latest generation, full colour TFT Head-up Display; now brighter, with a larger information area and increased resolution.

A second-generation wearable Activity Key can be used to lock, unlock and start the vehicle without the need for the conventional key fob to be present. This rechargeable device incorporates a watch and has a battery life of seven days between charges.

Jaguar’s Driver Condition Monitor technology is able to detect if the driver is beginning to feel drowsy and alert them to take a break. The technology uses inputs from thousands of data points, some of which are measured every one thousandth of a second – including steering, pedal inputs and general driving behaviour – to detect signs of tiredness.

The new E-PACE also features Jaguar’s ClearSight Interior Rear View Mirror technology that ensures we don’t turn our streamlined Saturday schedules into an unpleasant and unnecessary bump or bruise with the unobstructed view behind. Using a wide angle rear-facing camera, the system feeds images to a high-definition screen within the frameless rear view mirror; unhindered by tall rear passengers, poor light or rain on the rear screen. And the latest 3D Surround Camera technology offers real-time viewing options when manoeuvring the vehicle with settings including Junction View, 3D Perspective View, and ClearSight Plan View.
