Ethos, the luxurious Joburg eatery, will move to a new space at Oxford Parks in Rosebank and acclaimed Chef Luke Dale Roberts will be assisting in designing the new menu in collaboration with newly appointed Executive Chef, Ken Phuduhudu.

The transition to a casual, yet fine dining menu will no doubt be in excellent hands with the assistance from the internationally recognised Chef Roberts from award-winning Pot Luck Club and acclaimed fine dining restaurant The Test Kitchen, and the talented Chef Ken Phuduhudu, who worked alongside Luke at The Test Kitchen.

Says Roberts: ‘Ethos restaurant is an honest restaurant, and the food will be honest… honest food is authentic, cooked with love, highlighting, not masking the main ingredient and purpose of the dish. I’m excited by this challenge. It’s about how we can take Mediterranean food to another dimension and still keep it delicious and real.’

Chef Ken Phuduhudu also brings a wealth of experience to the table, in addition to his stint at The Test Kitchen, he’s worked in leading restaurants such as Terroir, Glenda’s, Epicure and The Greenhouse as well as founded The Private Dining Experience. Mediterranean cuisine is what Chef Ken truly loves to explore and highlight in a modern light.

Says Chef Ken: ‘Ethos restaurant is going to be a game changer within the food industry, I look forward to working with Chef Luke Dale Roberts again, after many years apart, this is going to be an exciting reunion.’

The menu will be a tantalising mix of authentic and honest dishes inspired by the Mediterranean and will combine traditional and modern techniques. Diners can expect dishes such as Iberico Pork Neck Skewers with ancho scented romesco sauce as well as Baba Ganoush, Lamb Kofte and many more exciting courses.

In 2020, Ethos Morningside won the Luxe Hosco Restaurant Style Award in partnership with Bonang  Matheba and House of BNG for its interiors, atmosphere and ambiance and the new restaurant space in Rosebank promises to be even better.

Ethos Rosebank’s configuration: indoor seating, outdoor seating, chef’s table seating, a 14-seater private dining room, a generous bar and an exquisite wine cellar.

Interior designer Giorgio Tatsakis who worked on the Morningside eatery, which opened in 2019, is once again in charge of the interiors. Same as before, the inspiration of Ethos came from the unique and timeless features that are seen throughout the alluring Mediterranean.  Giorgio explains that now more than ever, when it is harder to travel due to restrictions, spaces that offer a form of escapism are even more relevant.

Pre-Covid, Giorgio and his father and founder, Chris Tatsakis, travelled abroad to countries including Greece, Italy, Dubai and the United Kingdom for inspiration to incorporate into Ethos. Having done so successfully in the previous space, Giorgio is keeping the new spaces’ interiors synonymous with the brand, however adding a few more design trends. This includes Giorgio’s favourite feature; the new ceiling baffles which consist of a special material imported from France suspended from the ceiling, as well as rich-in-texture Arabescato marble from Italy.

Diners can expect to indulge in some delicious dishes in a luxurious and dramatic setting, which includes sweeping arches, grand columns, impressive Italian marble and a soothing neutral colour palette with brass accents.

This father-son duo has once again teamed up with incredible local designers and artisans as well as architects, SuP Architecture, to create a Mediterranean inspired space, bringing their vision to life.
