Media 10 is bringing back the next edition of Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View.

With thousands of visitors to last year’s inaugural show, the climate proved right for a unique showcase of the very best that the local décor and design trade has to offer.

The show’s curative process is set to top that maiden exhibition, with 2018 offering a larger selection of design industry exponents, all of whom will transform the Sandton Convention Centre into a nucleus of interior (and exterior) design talent.

Design Joburg 2018 will draw the attention of visitors to two major features: Rooms on View and CoLabs.

With exhibitors displaying their wares within innovative room sets, this element of the show will once again be under the curative eye of South African interior designer Sumari Krige. The next edition of this show within a show will introduce the latest in cutting edge décor to Design Joburg.

Last year’s collaborations were innovative and a hit with attendees. So, in 2018, the expo will see refining, formalising and supersizing this aspect for both exhibitors and visitors. Because these collective spaces are so inventive and experimental, they’re dubbed  CoLabs.

The overall concept remains the same: curated feature exhibits that bring together leading architects and interior designers with top drawer brands, local artisans and suppliers. Part of upping the ante is the show’s exciting partnership with paint brand Fired Earth as sponsors of the CoLabs features.

The line-up of designers and architects includes; Liam Mooney, Heather Boting, Design Dreams International, DNX Interiors, and Form Interiors. More established studios like Design Partnership, Studio A, Blacksmith Interiors and JVR Architects, will be taking on mentoring roles and working with design start-ups.

Media 10 will welcome back Andrea Kleinloog and Megan Hesse, co-owners of Anatomy Design and HK Studio, as Creative Directors of the show. Using their wealth of industry experience, this design duo’s role will be to spearhead the creation of the expo’s unique offering. Together they’ll be driving this collaborative and integrated approach, crafting a presentation that will showcase the vanguard of design in South Africa.

Further Design Joburg features are in the works including the main central restaurant, which will be curated by Marble’s David Higgs and interior designer Irene Kyriacou; as one of Johannesburg’s coolest fine dining hot spot, Marble will be introducing culinary magic.

Taking inspiration from the show’s own collaborative focus, this pop-up restaurant and bar will be called ‘CoLab  ‘and celebrates Marble’s own collaborative journey with their vendors, artisans and designers.

The Architect’s Gallery is a new addition and the central feature for the 2018 show. It will exhibit the work of South Africa’s architectural community, presented mostly in 3D model format. And since tactile, take-away elements are appreciated, leading décor brands will be exhibiting their product.

The Media 10 team announce further updates on exhibitors, features and collaborations in the coming months.

Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View will take place at the Sandton Convention Centre from 25 to 27 May 2018.

Edit, February 2018:

As Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View, hots up as South Africa’s go-to exhibition for the very latest in décor and design from the African continent, the show is thrilled to announce the addition of Design Corridor.

Design Corridor is a curated collection of quirky retail pods that will showcase the wares of some of Southern Africa’s best-loved designers including the likes of Skinny laMinx, Haldane Martin, Avoova and Blank Ink Design.

For visitors looking for some fresh design takeaways, a visit to these bijou exhibits of ceramics, textiles, signature furniture pieces and more, is a must.
